Concerned About The Shelf Life Of Your Skincare Products?

Clean Beauty Canada
How often do you think about how long your skincare products have been sitting on your shelf?

If your answer is "years!" or  “hmmm.. a very long time”.

According to the FDA, parabens are a family of related chemicals that are commonly used as preservatives in cosmetic products. Preservatives may be used in cosmetics to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mold, in order to protect both the products and consumers. The parabens used most commonly in cosmetics are methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben.
So basically, parabens keep your favourite skin care products "safe" for a longer period of time.

Now, why are so many companies switching to Paraben-Free Beauty?

The EWG has many concerns with these chemicals. Scientific studies suggest that parabens can disrupt hormones in the body and harm fertility and reproductive organs, affect birth outcomes, and increase the risk of cancer. Cosmetics typically contain mixtures of different types of parabens. The most commonly used six types are methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, isopropyl-, butyl- and isobutylparaben.
